Pierre Blanchet and Marie Fournier began their life together in Quebec City in February 1670, at a remarkable time in the history of New France. Quebec had been founded by Samuel de Champlain only sixty-two years earlier, and the colony was still small and growing. During the 1660s, King Louis XIV had made New France a royal colony, the Carignan-Salières Regiment had arrived to strengthen its defenses, and hundreds of Filles du Roi (Daughters of the King) came to help establish families and permanent communities.
It was in this changing frontier world along the St. Lawrence River that Pierre and Marie married and raised their family. Their descendants would eventually spread across Canada and the United States, becoming part of the much larger story of French North America. More than 350 years later, Pierre Blanchet and Marie Fournier remain the ancestral couple at the heart of the Blanchet and Blanchette family story.
